Subject: Support for Our Public Library System

Dear [Board Supervisor’s Name],

I hope this email finds you well. My name is [Your Name], and I am a resident of Merced County. I am writing to express my strong support for the Merced County public library system and my opposition to any form of privatization or potential cuts in library services.

Recently, numerous community members have expressed concerns regarding possible changes to our library system. While County officials have stated that no final decisions have been made, the history of past library closures and the recent news coverage have understandably raised alarm among residents who rely on these resources for educational programs, technology access, and community-building.

It is important to me that our public library remains fully funded, publicly operated, and accessible to all members of our community. I would also like to be officially noted as a supporter of the Merced County public library system. Libraries are more than just buildings with books; they are vital community spaces that foster learning, creativity, and connection for people of all ages. They are also important sources of community. Merced is lacking in 3rd spaces, and the Library is an incredibly valuable one for both our youth and adults.

Thank you for your time and service to our community. I hope the library remains a cherished public institution and continues to receive the support it needs.

Sincerely,

Good morning, Board Members, CEO, and Staff. My name is [Your Name], and I am a [resident / local educator / parent / student / etc.] of [Your City/Neighborhood]. I’m here to voice my support for preserving Merced County’s public library system and to oppose any move toward privatization or service cuts.

[Optional: Add a Personal Anecdote]
For example: “When I was growing up, the library played a key role in my education by offering a quiet study space and free computer access. It’s where I developed a love for reading and discovered new interests. I know many other families in our community who rely on the library for similar opportunities.”

[Optional: Describe a Community Need or Benefit]
For example: “Our library regularly hosts language-learning programs, after-school tutoring, and job-search workshops. These resources help countless residents—including seniors, students, and job-seekers—improve their skills and stay connected.”

I appreciate the County’s recent clarification that no decisions have been finalized regarding privatization. However, it remains important to keep these discussions open and transparent.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my perspective. I urge you to preserve full public oversight and funding for our libraries.

[End with a simple closing or thank you.]
